BELGIA
The Flemish Region would be interested to participate in an expression of interest for the following items.
If another public authority is interested, the contact in Flemish Administration is at the end of the list.
All the best
1.How do functional urban areas, consisting of various smaller cities but without a European Mega, function and which spatial policies would be most appropriate to maximize their potentials.
2.How do regions plan? Can one particular system be considered more effective than another planning system or are differences mainly due to external factors such as geography, public and political support, planning tradition, etc.
3.How can regions that function as a gateway to Europe with major transport flows best manage this situation to maximize the benefits and minimize the negative consequences?
4.Which role can spatial planning play in densely populated delta regions in handling the specific environmental challenges that this socio-geographical situation implies (e.g. air quality, water quality)?
5.Which role can spatial planning play in obtaining the targets of the Lisbon strategy within a region where available space for large-scale investments is limited?

Ms Vladimira Silhankova (NGO Civitas per Populi), who took part at the Info Day and Partner Café in Brussels this week, would like to be a project partner within Priority 3 (Territorial Indicators & Indices) of this Call for Proposals. Should you please disseminate this info among your national institutions which would be able to join them within this project.
The research will be focused on urban dynamics e.g. the speed of urbanisation during last 15 years. There will be measured urbanized area in the comparison with non-urbanized area and a portion of brownfields on urbanized area. The main aim of the research is to create an indicator which would describe urban dynamics. It would be also possible to monitor disparities in regional development of EU regions NUTS II.
